It’s been an exciting week at the Heritage Centre, as our banner project has picked up speed. For the last several months, we have been working with Artist Elizabeth Loveday to create a large-scale piece of public art for our new museum entrance, for permanent display once we – by then, newly renamed “Hayle Museum” – relaunch in 2028.
Made of vintage and recycled fabrics, Elizabeth is creating a textile banner inspired by Hayle’s rich history. Her banner and characters embody Hayle’s stories in stitch and fabric; from the waters that have shaped Hayle since prehistory and quiet tales of its everyday folk, to long-held traditions and its mighty industrial past that put a small Cornish town on the world stage.

This week, our Curator, Daisy, visited Elizabeth in her studio near Penzance to map out her drawings, creating harmony and a narrative which tethers the stories to their landscape.
