Our oral history collection is an unrivalled resource for uncovering the human side of history in Hayle.
It is the result of the Hayle Oral History Project (2009-2010) in which children and adults were trained to carry out interviews, and to edit and transcribe the recordings. Over one hundred interviews were conducted with people of all kinds from the Hayle area, capturing hours’ worth of memories of life in the town.
The project culminated in the publication of Churks, Clidgy & Doodle-Dashers, a book of Hayle tales and trails, which includes transcribed interviews, local walks and a wealth of historical photographs.
A large selection of recordings are for the first time available on our website. Go ahead and explore the following themes: –
