This collection tells the story (her life and achievements) of Hayle’s champion swimmer.
Born Tilly Thomas at Carnsew Cottages in 1921, Tilly grew up swimming off the Weir amidst large boats coming into Hayle Harbour to unload.
At just seven years old she competed for the first time in Hayle Regatta, a major event in the town’s social calendar.
Spurred on by spectators shouting support from Clifton Terrace, Tilly went on to compete in other races, winning the Championship of Cornwall on four occasions.
