Funding Boost Brings Hayle Museum a Step Closer

  September 22, 2026    Daisy Culmer

We are delighted to announce that we have received support from the Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) through their Heritage Revival programme. The funding will enable us to appoint a design team and specialist consultants, to help to turn our vision for a new museum for Hayle into detailed plans and a reality!

John Harvey House during Harvey & Co.’s 19th century heyday. A foundry furnace chimney can be seen behind the building’s original cupola. The rare Z Class, timber construction viaduct, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, can be seen to the right.

The funding will enable the Trust to appoint a professional design team and specialist consultants. The project represents the final stage in the redevelopment of the Grade II* Listed John Harvey House, once the company office building for Harvey’s Foundry.

John Harvey House in the mid-2oth century, when it was occupied by engineering firm Slades.

Following years of investment to secure the historic building, this latest phase will focus on creating a brand new museum for Hayle, exploring the town’s story from prehistory through to the present day.

The building was home to Hayle’s much-loved Meadery, Excalibur’s, ran by armourer Terry English and open between 1988 and 1996.
The building has been home to Hayle Heritage Centre since 2013.
